The power of chocolate

Well it's official. Caleb taught Emily how to use a straw! A few days ago he put his chocolate milk (carnation instant breakfast) in front of her to tease her, he left it in long enough that she sucked and all is history. I would not have thought someone could learn to use a straw at nine months. Today we went to Cracker Barrell (oh it had been so long) for dinner I gave her a cup of water with a straw in it and she knew just what to do. :) If I took it away too soon she would pound her arm on the table. Karen, it reminded me of Anna when she would pound her one leg on the floor with such force. That's what Emily does with her arm if she wants more of something. She signed more for two days and hasn't done it since. :) Well tomorrow is the big day. Getting my tubes tied. Only a little nervous. Otherwise happy to not have to remember to take a pill everyday. Hope all is well. Have a good week.

Jenn just got back from surgery - sounds like it went fine. Our friend Elaine (owner of one of our restaurants down here - Culvers) took her this morning, and picked her up. Said it went well. Jenn was out of it, and is in bed now. Apparently she'll be out of it for about 3 days. Vicadin is her friend.

Meanwhile, Caleb and I made chocolate chip cookies this morning, and Emily just crawled around and got into things. Made some chocolate-chip cookies without the chips for Jenn, as that's her favorite kind. Maybe be a while before she's up to eating anything though.
