First days of school
Hello all you Hunnies, and all of you beloved by a Hunny. How is the first week of school for all the kids? Anna is loving school even more than last year. Our school has a crazy half day every Wednesday and I wasn't home today when her van showed up!! Panic! Last year she had an extended lunch/ therapy on Wednesdays which I thought would be the case this year. Sometimes it's fortunate that she doesn't exactly know everything going on. I had to pick her up at school after they had driven her back.
Tomorrow is Jane's first day of preschool. Cute picture of Emily's first day Jenn. I bet she likes school too. Today we played with some girls who are going to be in Jane's class. She had such a good time! She still is not talking to anyone besides Nate, Anna and myself but at least she's not having temper tantrums and imaginary friends pushing her down. There is hope!
Nate's parents were here for two weeks and just left Monday. Mom had some problems with the fluid in her eyes making a blind spot right in the center of her vision. They stayed longer than intended here while seeing specialists. She may need surgery in the future but it is ok for now. They are back in Russia until next June! That is such a long time! Mean while, we will have a couple living in their place from Sept. until Jan. They are doing an internship with our church's youth ministry. They are from Germany.
Nate is looking at a career change sooner than expected. There are layoffs at the station and it just seems like anyone could be next! They pay him peanuts anyway, so why not change jobs? It's hard because he likes most of his co-workers so much. Any suggestions? What do you think Nate would be good at or enjoy?
I'm looking forward to Tuesday which is my first real day of almost 2 1/2 hours with both girls in school. I think I'll spread manure on the garden beds in my first "free time" in almost 7 years!!
Good night.

Wonderful news on Anna. Funky thing about that half-day. Lots of schools are adopting strange schedules lately.
I'll want the dirt on Jane's first day. Hope it goes well.
I'll think about Nate and come back later.
Where are your new German neighbors from? Enjoy the exchange.
I'll be off. Noah and I should be outside.
Have fun spreading manure. Only you could pick that as a perfect first day off activity!
love, kris
Today went ok for Jane. She had a little trouble sharing. She also was shooshing all the kids on the playground because they were too loud by her standards. But she played with her new girl friends and was very excited to see them.
Enjoy the last days of warmth and sun!!
Lucas had a real good first day. We went in on Tues to meet his teacher, find his classroom, and put all his school supplies in his desk and locker! They have lockers in first grade now! Woow. We were pleased to see he sits next to two friends, knows 4 other kids in the class and the teacher's aide is the same one he had last year. The teacher seems real nice too. He was excited to go back yesterday and came off the bus excited about his first day. He was so thrilled to tell me "what was so cool about first grade? You get playtime 2 times during the day!" I didnt have the heart to tell him that was probably only for the first few days.
Connor starts preschool next Monday again and he can barely stand to wait that long. He goes three half days this year but he is so ready for Kindergarten already.
Enjoy your gardening...I've got 5 more years before I get to experience that!
Hello ladies! Well Caleb has been in school three weeks now. He loves it. Last year was so strict and this year is the opposite. His teacher has complete control over the class but she does it in a loving yet strict way. Caleb has six new kids in his class. He was excited about that. Although, they do seem to be having a difficult time transitioning to the rules of the classroom. Caleb seems to have been on the receiving end of their "hard times" a few times. His teacher told me that she sent three of the boys to use the restroom one day (it's down the hall) and all of the sudden she heard screaming coming from the boys restroom. Well one of the new boys thought it would be funny to turn the lights off on caleb while he was still going to the bathroom :). Did I tell you he is afraid of the dark? So needless to say that little one didn't have a very good day. Then on the same day when I looked in Caleb's communication folder there was a note from one of the new girls to caleb saying, "Caleb, I"m sorry I was hitting you with the pencil. Please forgive me." :) Thankfully the kids are calming down and no new incidents have ocured. :) Especially involving poor caleb.
Emily had her first week of preschool this week. She did fine. She should have she finally has one of the teachers that caleb had whom she just loves. So that went well. When I picked her up the other day and asked her how school went she said, "that girl in the purple shirt took a toy away from me." I asked her if she talked with Ms. Olga or the other teacher and she said, "no." I asked her what she did about it and she said, "I used my muscles." :} It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand what that means. :)
Well I must run and hopefully clean up the kitchen. You all blow real hard and send some of the cooler weather down here. We're still in the mid nineties.
have a good weekend.

Hi everyone! How fun to get these updates. Karen, we will certainly be praying for Nate and his job search. So sweet to think of some of your kiddos already being in first grade - wow!!! Amazing!
We've been battling sickness here, and are in the "gooky cough" stage. The boys waver between playing mostly well and being miserable. I think Dave's getting it now - just how it goes, I guess. We plan to start Sunday School this fall - Dave and I will be co-teaching the preschool class - should be fun! We'll start preschool next fall, as the boys' birthday falls end of August. At the moment, once we get thru this sickness, we plan to finish up the boys' room and convert to toddler beds. Hopefully this will go smoothly - we'll just have to see! Okay, happy Sunday everyone!
Sabrina, you and Dave are very brave. A preschool Sunday school class? Wow. Best of luck. I'm sure you guys will have fun.
I'm holding Noah back 1 year, too. He's born ON the cut-off date, so he'd be the youngest kid in his class by a year, in some cases. We're doing a mom and me thing this year . . . should be interesting.
Good luck with the colds. Feel better soon!
Kris, That's great that you're keeping Noah back another year since he is so young. I know caleb has two very young kids in his class and even though they know everything they need to they both had a very hard time being more emotionally immature than the other kids. Caleb, would say to me, "mom he acts so weird, or the other kids weren't very nice to him, because he did this. Why does he act like that?" I never would have thought that being younger could have so much of a difference on how a kid acts and how that influences the responses of the other kids. But it really does.
