Ode to a (Not Quite So Much Anymore) Comfy Chair
Hello Hunnies! Long before I entered the picture of your dear little group of friends, a certain piece of dorm furniture was reportedly passed down thru the dorm generations and landed in your Perkins apartment. When we cleaned out the apartment after everyone graduated, we adopted the character-filled "Comfy Chair," carting Her around to our various homes ever since and continuing to claim Her soporific effects upon anyone who sank down into those tantalizing cushions. Well . . . after more than a decade of salvaging the Much Beloved Comfy Chair, upon whom many of you have sat, napped, and lived your college years . . . I am sad to hereby announce that this piece of furniture has turned into a bit of a weapon - a deathtrap, to be exact. Yes, despite all of our delusional protests, the broken springs are tearing holes in any slipcover attempts I make, and I am now starting to fear for the safety of our little guys. We've purchased a replacement, which will arrive at the end of the week - at this time, the Comfy Chair will find Her new home on our curb. Matt and Heather - you are of course welcome to claim Her if you're interested!!! :) But I thought all the Hunnies would want, once and for all, the closure of knowing that She will move on to her final resting place soon. (I thought Dave had a great idea - hey, let's just drop it off on the RIT campus - surely someone will resurrect Her again! We would surely do this if only She were easier to transport.) Amen and so be it - may She rest in peace!!! :)

Haha! Well it has been enjoyed many times. I didn't know that thing was still around! It's funny, but dave is right. I know some college kid would pick it right up if placed strategically near a dumpster. :) Enjoy your new chair!
It's very fitting that this event occurs on Memorial Day weekend. I think I hear taps in the background.
Please let us have a moment of silence to remember all the moments of silence we enjoyed in the chair. (And all of us have.) As I recall it has enjoyed some not so silent moments as well. If for nothing else the speaker tests of U2's "Love is Blindness" or the afterburner of a jet, or the cacophonous roar of a THX sound check.
Dave, I would be willing to help take it to RIT. I still have the red truck to take it there so give me a call.
HA! Yes, by all means, drive it to RIT! Post a sign telling it's tale- a ballad, perhaps. Drive away blasting "Love is Blindness" and have a great time doing it.
We still have Heather's grandmother's love seat. It is now covered with a thow, but makes a comfy reading spot, if unfortunate catch-all, in our bedroom. I'm thinking it will soon be retired to the basement, but it lives on.
Oh no! I knew this day would come sometime, but I didn't think it would be so soon. Matt is right: Memorial day is fitting. I agree that it belongs at RIT. That's it's home. Live on, Comfy Chair. Live on.
I hear a ballad by Air Supply starting to play. "I'm all out of springs, I'm so lost without you[r butt]..."
Dave - out of curiosity, do you still have my old kitchen table?
Too fun! Well, guys - It looks like we've reached a consensus! That's very kind of you, Matt Wilber, to offer transport for Her last moments with this Clan. Our new chair is expected to come in "at the end of the week" - we can let you know when it arrives and set up a time to return the Comfy Chair to Her rightful home, ha ha! :)
Goodbye comfy chair. Hey Kris, is that the love seat with a green design on it? I loved that thing! Just the right size. I have often wished for one myself, a whole living room of love seats. But, Nate is not fond of small seating.
Yes, it is! The very same, and I agree: It is the perfect size. It is a teensy bit squishy now, but just a bit. It lived in my parent's sun room while we were in DK, but other than Hunny sleeping on it (she still preferred the back of the couch until quite elderly, when someone would boost her up), it got little use.
I will be sending it to the basement when we get that project moving. It will also be the perfect size to provide this adult a spot to rest, yet not take up too much play space.
