If you're interested

I was thinking . . . this would give you guys an idea of what's available and cost-of living stuff. Most of the sites are in Danish, but you can figure out enough to take a peek. For prices, divide by 6. (exchange rate today is 6.25 kroner to $1 UDS)

Netto is one of our discount food stores. Føtex is our high-end store. The links are to this week's sales flyer.

Fona is one of the main computer/electronic stores here. We do have a Computer City in town, which is very small.

Baby Sam is the main store here for baby furniture and "hardware." The clothes they offer are top quality, most kids (especially the youngest) have very good stuff for outerwear, as they spend most of their day outdoors. People invest in good stuff. You can get cheaper clothes at the department stores downtown, most people buy day-day clothes there.

So, Denmark isn't part of the EU? No Euros for you?

Denmark is part of the EU- we just don't use the euro. People are very patriotic that way. There are lots of ways the Danes try to keep an national identity here . . . using their own coins is one of them.

So I thought of another question while I was asleep last night: you mentioned that seeing a policeman was not in-the-ordinary. What type of crime rate do you have? Do you have any, or does everyone just hang out at parks? ;)

I forgot before . . . yes, Jenn, small children do ride the buses alone- fairly long distances, too. Kidnapping is unheard of here, so it's considered absolutely safe.

How trusting are they here? I picked up the little girl I'm babysitting at daycare, and no one asked my name, or for ID when I arrived. I just walked off with the kid. When I introduced myself to the teacher, she said it was un-necessary. I was shocked.

Matt- the crime rate is low. How low, I'm not sure. Violent crime seems to be very, very unusual. There was a rape in the park here the summer before I arrived, and it shocked the country.

I feel absolutely safe walking alone at night, which is good, since it gets dark here by 4 in the winter!

Wow. So how do they get such upstanding people? Send some danes this way!! Pretty different than here considering Oprah's show was about child molesters yesterday, we've had at least 6 kids under 16 murdered in Rochester just in the last few months and the Chief of Police came to our MOMS Club meeting today to discuss Halloween safety! Its a scary world we live in!
