Lesson learned: Keep the tick

My sister-in-law found a tick behind my niece Olivia's ear last week. She removed the critter and kept it in a bag so the doctor could see it. When she brought her into the doctor, he was able to send the tick away for testing to find out whether the tick had Lyme's disease, or even if it had bit Olivia in the first place. They'll get any results on the tick in a few weeks. Olivia is on a round of amoxicillin, just to be safe.

I thought I was pretty up on what to do in all sorts of odd kiddie-related situations, but it never would have occured to me to keep a tick, although it makes sence, once you think about it. It takes all the "what ifs" out of the situation, and that's great. Thought it was worth passing it on.

HI- Olivia has a TON of hair, and her mom puts it up every day. She found it pulling her hair into pig tails. They're pretty sure she didn't get bit- no mark and the tick didn't look engorged. They'll know in two weeks.
