Movin' Right Along (or, Here We Go Again)

I might have told all of you before that John's position here was for two years. The expectation was that we'd move back to Rochester, and the two years would give John enough time to find a permanent job elsewhere in research.

Well, as soon as we got here, John started looking for a new job. He quickly decided that he wanted to leave science, and look for something different. The main reason was that life at the next level would be mostly grant writing, stress about grant money, and supervising other people doing what he'd rather be doing himself. He's been looking at lots of different options, and one in the Rochester area came up that he was particularly interested in. He went in for an interview a few weeks ago, and it looks like he has the job! The "catch" is he will be a consultant for a company in Buffalo (East Aurora, to be exact, and no, it's not Fisher Price). He'll be doing programing, which he really enjoys. He's really excited. We'll know for certain on Thursday, but unless something really odd happens, he's going to take the job.

My thoughts? I'm thrilled for him, but can't help thinking, "Oh, bother, not again!" He'll be training in Rochester through February, but then he'll have to commute until we settle our housing situation. We have a one-year lease on this apartment, good through July. We'd like to buy a house in the Buffalo area, but I'm not sure the timing will work out. If nothing else, it certainly means we'll be moving again sometime between this spring and summer, and I just got my books settled onto the shelves the way I like 'em!

Considering the worries about the new job, I'm doing fine. I'm just getting our health insurance and whatnot settled from the last move, so I don't relish starting that over again, but what else can I do? Noah continues to be a really easy baby, and we're enjoying him immensely. He's smiling and laughing now, and it's just adorable. We all went to Wegman's for our first official outing last weekend, and survived quite well. I've just been cleared to go back to "normal" activities, although the doctor warned that "normal" will probably cause pain for another 3-6 months. No more excuses about not doing laundry!

HI- What the heck did they give you? I've never heard of allergy meds with that side-effect profile (just curious). The med must interfere with your ability to dispearse heat, or constrict blood vessels and I can't figure how that could be.

If it's any consulation, they have to put every little odd-ball thing that happended to next-to-nobody in that warning profile. Chances are the percentage are pretty small.

Have you tried one of the nasal sprays? (Flonase, rhinocourt, etc). They seem to work really great with pollen allergies in particular- just passing on the word. They are steroid sprays, but if you're only using them before and during pollen season (they take a few weeks to get in your system), it might not be bad. Come to think of it, they could affect your circulatory system, is that what you're on?

Oh- looks like we're going to be moving soon than we thought. They don't want John commuting, so looks like we'll be outta here by the end of february. We're crashing with my parents until we can settle the housing.

Rochester Hunnies, we need to get together before we leave!!!

Kris, I know just what you mean when you say you have your books just the way you like them! I'm still waiting for the "final move" when I can have ALL the books out that I like!!! Maybe this spring. Please don't be hard on yourself if you can't help with the move as much as you think you should. Your number one job is Mommy and that's hard enough. It'll all get done without you!
Jenn, allergies suck! Every thing up here is finally frozen. No pollen for us! It's 17 degrees out there right now. Wish I could share it with you.
Nate has some kind of flu/ cold/ fever thing. Pray that it doesn't spread to the rest of us!!

Wow, wow, wow! So much news!!! Kristen, we are certainly bummed you're leaving Rochester, though really happy John found a job he likes - that's so important. We would absolutely love to get together with you!

Jenn, so sorry to hear about Cedar Fever, meds, etc. - whew!!!

Karen, that's so hard when one family member's sick and you're trying not to get it!!!

We're doing okay here - just survived another allergy episode with Corban from an unknown allergen that made his lip and eyes swollen after he'd gone to bed. Hopefully today we'll get back to normal . . . love to you all, S

I know the title is an allusion to the Muppet Movie, but every time I read it, I hear:

"Here we go again on our own...Goin' down the only road I've ever known..."

That road sounds like I-90 westbound out of Rochester.
