On the road again.
But it turns out I CAN wait to get back on the road again.
I mean, the road to the hospital, which I've traveled all too often recently. Yesterday around 5:15pm, Jenn called me back from the mailbox on my cell phone, stating she had this sharp pain in her left side around her waist. After 45 minutes of trying to figure out what was going on, we drove her to the hospital. Turns out she has some kidney stones, the largest measuring 5mm (thanks to an ultrasound). She was screaming in pain until about 11pm last night when a third round of a good dosage of IV drugs made her pass out.
She's admited to the hospital, heavily drugged, and I'm off work today and however long I need to be with the kids. Thankfully our friend Jeff from our playgroup came over to get the kids yesterday - he fed them dinner, put them to bed, and hung out at the house until 1am when I got home. He even took out the trash.
Jenn called and she also has a uniary infection too. Waiting to hear what they plan to do.
Back to the kids. Trying to figure out supper. "Meat...it's what's for dinner."

YIKES!!! I'm so glad you're back on the blog, but not for this news! I'll keep Jenn in my prayers. Hope they get a plan soon, and keep up the drugs in the meantime.
Well, the plan of record is inserting a stint, somewhere between the kidney of interest and her bladder. Honestly, it's hard for me to understand eveything because Jenn is so hazey on the phone, thanks to the drugs. She gets a round of IV drugs every 2 hours to keep her sedated, which is better than being in horrible pain. The UT infection is making things more difficult for the doctor because any operation could lead to the infection hitting her blood, and then having a blood infection. I'll know more tomorrow.
And for those interested in tonight's final dinner selection, we had a entree of homemade fried chicken tenders coated in breadcrumbs and parmesan cheese, with a side of noodles in alfredo sauce, yeast rolls (yes, also homemade), and tall glasses of ice cold milk. Finished off with peanutbutter ice cream and more milk (well, orange juice for the kids - go figure.)
Night.
Oh, so sorry to hear of Jenn's plight!!! I hope this resolves soon for her sake, and for all of you! We will keep you in our prayers.
She had a procedure done today to insert a stint in between her kidney and bladder (I think). It's supposed to help the infection's gunky stuff get out, and also allow the stone to roll out more easily. She's not in any more pain, and has been off the morphine since earlier this evening. She may come home tomorrow. If the stone doesn't make an appearance, she'll have to go back for the SupersonicBlast-o-matic '76 to break it up into tiny bits.
That's the news, and I am...off to bed. Night.
Just visited her this morning. We're waiting to hear from the urologist to see about going home. She's doing much better today, given she's off the morphine. Turns out the reason she was in so much pain on Sunday night was because her kidneys were backed up, blocked by this 5mm stone. Ouch. Apparently the stone hasn't moved, so they may need to blast it once the infection is gone.
The same guy who took care of Caleb & Emily on Sunday night had us over for dinner last night (his pork roast on the grill trumped my plan of hotdogs and tater tots). Tonight another friend from Caleb's school is bringing over dinner for us.
Will keep you posted. I think what Jenn is suffering from most is her spirits are low from being in the hospital so long.
Thank you all for your prayers. I am finally back home. I don't know what it is about hospitals but they drain every ounce of energy out of me. I can't wait to take a bath and that hospital smell of off me. The bed and pillow there were like sleeping on rocks. I don't remember the beds being that uncomfortable in the maturnity ward. I"m in minor pain right now from the insertion of the stint and uncomfortable sleeping situation. The Urologist said that when he put the stint in puss drained from my kidney for ten minutes straight. So that's not good! I don't want this to happen again. Thanks again all. Have a good weekend.

welcome home, Jenn! Ugh, what an experience!!! We are praying for you!!!
Jenn is still in a heap of pain. We're trying to find another urinologist, as this current one is taking vacation all next week, even though he told Jenn he wanted to remove the stent next week. #$%^&. That would mean 10 terrible days before getting the stent out. So please still keep Jenn in prayer.

Well, I'm writing from a waiting room - a doctor's office with free WiFi. Wohoo! The bigger deal is that Jenn's in right now going to prep for the supersonicblast-o-matic surgery. She went to her OB today, told him her story, and he made a call, and got Jenn an appt. with a good reputable urinologist who will operate on her TODAY. So after the OB appt., we ran up to this new urinologist, and he scheduled surgery for 4pm, prep at 2:30pm. So we ran home, got a friend to take care of Caleb & Emily, and ran up to North Austin, and here I am.
Hopefully this will take care of everything and she'll be as good as new.
Meanwhile, I've got a Powerbook, free WiFi, no kids, and 3 hours to spare. It's like a vacation...

Boy, nothing seems to be easy for you guys this week. I can't believe that doctor left without setting you up with someone else! Three cheers for Jenn's OB!
Hope it went well. I'll check back soon.
Jenn's feeling a lot better tonight. After getting out of the hospital, we picked up the kids at 7:30pm, and off to bed. Jenn is in bed now too, and feeling much better. We'll setup another appointment early next week to remove the stent.
Things I've learned from this ordeal:
1. There are many studies (including funded research from the NIH) that shows Cranberry juice has chemicals to prevent or help existing uniary tract infections. The E.Coli bacteria (bad guys) can not adhere as well to the cell walls when you drink cranberry juice. Go Ocean Spray!
2. Apparently fresh lemon juice is good for your kidneys, helping to flush out infection and such. Jenn was told by the nurse tonight to drink plenty of lemon juice in her water for the next week.
So...lemons and cranberries make the kidneys and UT very happy. Words to pee by.

Glad to hear Jenn is better. Tell Jenn to splurge on the sugar a bit and have some lemonade! (I like one lemon's worth of juice in a water-sized glass, sugar to taste- about 1-2 TB.)
The new cranberry juice with lime is delish, too, if you haven't tried it.
