Hurricane Emily.

Hurricane Emily, cute but dangerous. Ok, well heather via our conversation the other day I conversed with my Pastors wife Laura, who is also a Chiropractor, via email and decided to take Emily to her father's practice. Well...... it was interesting. What do you all think of when you think of a chiropractor's office? Calm, peace, quiet, relaxing? Well when I enter with emily and caleb it is the gulf coast after Hurricane Katrina. Caleb I must say overall did well. We get there I have to fill out paperwork on emily... caleb makes a bee line to the water tower they have to get a cup of water. So I'm trying to fill out paperwork, I look back and Emily is pulling down the knob with water coming out! Ok "Emily, NO." Try to fill out paperwork. turn around, "Emily no." "No, caleb emily cannot have a cup of water or else she will pour it all over something, someone, or herself. Do not get her a cup of water." There he is standing with two cups of water. Here mommy for you. Ok now Emily wants that cup of water, I still haven't filled out the paper work. "I'll put it on top mommy so she won't get it." Well she still wants that cup of water even though it is up high, and she doesn't understand in just one minute. Ok, paper work filled out. I drink most of the water, which she lets me know by a screaching grunty sound eminating from her mouth that she doesn't like what I'm doing. So I give her the cup with a quarter inch of water in it to drink. Finally we have been called in. Did I mention she woke up at 6am this morning so she's grumpy from that AND teething with four teeth? Nope this isn't much better. Skeletons on the floor just waiting for little hands to break. Oh and an xray light table just waiting for caleb to touch. Well he sits down and I'm proud of him We read a book they had in the waiting room. How the Chiropractor saved Christmas. A must read for anyones list. Actually it was hilarious. Well emily figures that she can squeeze between a part of the table you lie on that has a leg extension for those who are taller. That's fine right? What little one doesn't like to pop up between things. Well what I didn't know is that so the extension can move smoothly back and forth it has, can anyone guess......, guys......? You guessed it grease on it! So now emily's legs have streaks of grease all over them. Ok grease rubs off not a problem. Well some how she got grease on her hands too. Which in turn gets grease all over the table! I pull her out of there, which she is not happy about. So she is standing near the door, smiles, says "buh bye!" and takes off running down the hall screaming. Caleb bursts out laughing, because it was hilarious, but Ihave to shush him and run after her. By the time i get out she is at the end of the hall running into either an examining room or office I'm not sure which. I just hear "well hello cutie!" She turns runs out of the room and into my arms. Well one of the Dr's assistants comes in the room an helps me out. She gives caleb paper, pencil and a dry erase marker to play with. Great! Well she decides to give the marker to emily to which I say, "please don't." She'll have the walls covered in two seconds flat." So finally the Dr. comes in and sits emily on the table. Well it is a cool table that moves up and down. He moves it up and says, "let's go for a ride. " To which caleb says, "I want to go for a ride!" After emily's appointment caleb. The nurse takes caleb into her office so he can draw and not intterupt us talking. THat was nice. So emily pops up inbetween the sections of the table again thus smearing more grease everywhere. But she isn't screaming, that's important. So as soon as the dr. starts adjusting her neck her arms drop to her side and she just stands motionless (first time all day) and lets him adjust her neck. Wow! Then she lays down and he adjust her bottom back and legs. Well with that all said and done it is time to pay. Give the clerk the credit card, turn around, "no emily." Get me out of here! So that was our trip to the chiropractor today. To see if realigning her spine will possibly help her sleeping at night! We have a visit again next tues. :) Wonderful!

We're here!

It's been an interesting week. All was dandy until Sunday night, when I found myself calling the doctor in Rochester at 1 am. It was a minor problem, but one I wanted to check out. Now mind you, our insurance didn't kick in until midnight on Tuesday, so I wasn't sure if they'd even accept my call, but to their credit, they did. The doc said I was probably ok, but he'd prefer I went to the closest ER, which was a nightmere I wanted to avoid. He made me promise that I'd call the office and go in the next day.

OK, so next day: We drove to Rochester about 3, the doctor took one look at me and sent John and I straight to labor and delivery at Rochester General, still with no insurance. They hooked me up to a baby monitor and proceeded to tell me horror stories about what was most likely not to happen: going into labor and losing the baby. The baby appeared to be absolutely fine. I have to admit, two things stayed in my mind: 1) They were dwelling on small percentages of bad things happening, which no one could stop, and 2) our insurance didn't kick in until midnight.

After five hours they finally let me go, smiling and waving, telling me there was no problem to be found, but I had to stay on bed rest until further notice. We were supposed to move into our Rochester apartment the next afternoon, and we were supposed to go back to Buffalo that night to pack the car. We did neither. We drove to Palmyra, where John's grandmother was more than happy to have company, and my parents drove in the next day with enough of our stuff to get us through the week. (I know I could have called the Rochester Hunnies in a pinch, which made me feel much better!) They stayed with me while John started his job Wednesday morning. It's worked out fine.

I did have an ultrasound yesterday, this time with coverage, and all appears well. Baby Snyder is kicking up a storm. If anything, he's more active, and now weight 1 lb 6 oz. I am now allowed to go grocery shopping, so long as I don't carry anything, and get out of bed a bit at a time. I'm still taking it easy. Perhaps I overdid it in Ã…rhus packing up the apartment, and the trip was just too much. I'll never know. Meantime, we have plenty of help coming in to help us get the furniture in tomorrow.

We now have a phone (I'll send all of you the number by email) and internet as of this morning. Tomorrow we actually get furniture! I guess I'm in charge of bossing everyone around from a lawn chair. I still miss my Hunny so much, but it's getting easier. I hope to see the Rochester Hunnies soon- after this weekend, we'll have somewhere for you to sit!

Any signs?

Have there been any signs from the recent Danish immigrants? Have any native Rochestarians seen them yet? Well, Rochestarians on this blog, anyway.

The Great Pop vs. Soda Controversy

Not that this page solves anything, but here is data fortified proof that Rochester was right in the middle of the soda versus pop controversy. To be honest, I think I may be a pop convert from a soda person. (Maybe it's the fact that I save a sylable.) I only have so many sylables that I can say a day, even fewer since I am male. So I have to conserve them when I can.
