Reorg, reorg, reorg....
Tough times call for desperate measures. The Commercial Production Department at my TV Station, of which I was a part was just effectively dissolved and dispersed. I will go to the Promotions-Community Services Department. I will switch supervisors and even move my desk up. I will shoot and edit Promotions-Community Services projects only. My other colleagues in commercial production, Michael the shooter, Gary the coordinator and Dave the editor will become a part of the Sales Department. They will answer directly to Sales and move to the Sales floor. This is particularly painful because Sales tends to be abusive of us as a resource, always assuming that they are more important that you because they bring in the money. They also never seem to manage their own deadlines and commitments and they are constantly asking you to drop everything you are doing and do a project for them because they will loose a sale if you don't! We've always had the buffer of not being directly under their control and now the buffer is gone! So to be honest my colleagues have it worse than me. But my move is not totally horrible. I like the people I will be working with and get along with all of them fine so really it's probably a good move for me in the long run. I just fear all change and always have! I’m just very thankful at the moment to have a job with the state of the economy as it is so I’m going to move forward and be positive. I’m going to embrace my new department and put on a happy face.
So that’s that! I guess I should count myself lucky to only have gone through one reorg in my 9 years at the station. Can’t say it won’t be the last the way things are going. I think this is going to be a tough year for the TV industry. But my trust and hope is in the Lord. He is the One who preserves me and my little family.

You have the right attitude, Nate. I go through reorgs about once every 6-8 months...but that usually doesn't directly result in layoffs. However, I know that this coming year we're expecting IT to be hit hard, and perhaps more of engineering to be stripped away (which is where I reside). But regardless, I'm glad you still have a job. That is indeed good news!
Keep warm up yonder. I've had to stop wearing shorts recently down here.
Matt? 6-8 months? I can't imagine a department ever 'gelling' in that amount of time. Yikes.
We're still hanging on here. John feels safe, although I'm more worried. We'll all have to keep our fingers crossed.
Well our news today at work is that...
1. Senior VP's, VP's, and CEO taking a pay cut
2. All employees have to take 5 days off in Q1, and 5 in Q2. Looks like I'm taking off Spring break.
3. 401K matching stopped until further notice.
4. No raises in 2009
One thing not mentioned is layoffs...but I imagine we'll see those in '09 as well.
Fun fun fun, but daddy's taking the t-bird away.
Hi everyone - sooo sorry for the long delay in our comments. Nate, we are thanking God that you were spared a layoff - and how stressful to be "reorganized" without getting any input into your new area! Glad you like your co-workers. We will certainly continue to keep you and your family's needs in our prayers!
