Tinsley doings and brave deeds
Hey there! The Tinsleys are still alive! We have only slowed down a tad bit since Christmas/ Wedding/ Etc. It is nice to be back to the school schedule. Mom and Fath are here till Thursday. They fly back that night, on their way to Russia until who knows when. We're all trying to get things settled for the next six months at least. In a couple of weeks they will be attending a "winter camp" that will be cold cold cold. Their apartment over there has very warm radiators so they are cozy enough inside but Russian camps are very primitive. Please pray the toilets are working!
Naty is doing well. His projects for East Light are done for a while so he has a little breather. Maybe he'll be able to talk to his college buddies some night! Anna is doing wonderful, daring new things. She walked backwards down a ramp today, loves walking in deep snow, is trying to walk down stairs by herself (yikes!) and is getting up from the floor by herself. She is very proud! Jane did a daring new thing today- used a public toilet for the first time! That's quite a triumph for my timid little girl.
Ok. One more thing, a Jane Austen Update. PBS is showing all new productions of all her works starting Sunday, January 13th on Masterpiece Theater. The first is Persuasion. Also, the movie Becoming Jane comes out on DVD in February I believe. It is worth seeing.
I miss you guys. Thanks for writing and keeping in touch!

I know what you mean about public toilets. Caleb did ok most of the time in public toilets. But one time there was a REALLY LOUD toilet where ever we were and it scared the crap out of him. It actually scared me too it was so loud. From that moment on he was timid about public toilets. So I made a game out of it. The "Let's guess and see if this toilet is as loud as the other one" game. Thankfully that worked. I was a little nervous for a while.
Where as my fearless Emily would love to go by herself to a public restroom. But we all know that's not possible.
Karen, do you use a disinfectant wipe on the toilet seat before you let them sit on the seat. I've been pondering doing that lately. Heck, caleb still prefers to sit as to stand. Although, I must say he has been standing using the toilet more lately than he ever has.
Ahhhh.... to be able to talk about bathroom etiquette amongst friends. :)
Any one going out to see the new "Pirates Who don't do Anything" Movie (Veggie Tales) this weekend? Two of caleb's friends (twins) from school are going and they asked us to join them on Friday afternoon after school. So we're going to do that.
Stay warm up there guys. And pray for me down here. Cedar fever (Allergies) has hit me hard this year. None of the allergy meds I take are working this year. I'm going to see caleb's allergy doctor friday morning. I never thought I would beg a doctor for a shot. But I"m ready to rip my eyes off and my nose off. Ugh. The joys of living in austin.
Keep warm up there.
love,
jenn
My kids walk out of the stall before flushing. For being the roudy boys they are they are SUPER sensitive to noise. Connor used to sit through church with his ears covered and Lucas' teacher made them all flush the toilet the first day of school (when moms were there) so they were prepared for how loud it is.
We are in the midst of a frontal change here. Monday and yesterday the temps were in the mid to upper 60's! Last night the winds started, the temps are dropping and it looks like a tornado is coming through. Winds up to 70 mph!!! Trees and power lines and roofs and debris all over the place. School has no power so I'm home with mine plus 2 more today. Pray the power stays at the house or I'll be searching for a McD's with a playground!!
We woke up last night about 4 am and it sounded like the house was aloft. Super-high winds continued through this morning. We woke up to find an entire tree laying across the street- the roots had pulled the sidewalk up!
That lead to Many Cool Trucks on the street, which Noah enjoyed very much. We kept power, too, which was more than most of Buffalo could boast!
I was lucky with Olivia. She had no fear of flushing, but she was terrified to SIT on toilets. Her mom had scared the bejeebers out of her about falling, and she was afraid of falling in. Not cool, when we were out most of the day- public toilets were the only option.
Sounds like an exciting storm! I think we got similar temps and wind patterns here today. Not as much wind though. I'm thrilled for Noah. Some time here there will be a house going in at the lot across from us. Jane will love the "yellow diggers" and such to come.
Jenn, I don't use a wipe. I've thought about a portable fold up seat but there doesn't seem to be time. When she tells me she has to go it's usually an emergency!
Hi everyone. We lost a couple days of internet access due to the high winds. Karen - we are so excited for that PBS series of Jane Austen movies!!! What a great way to spend the winter, right? :)
All this talk of toilets . . . I just have to get up my nerve in the spring and do it, potty train the boys. I know that once it starts, I will spend the majority of my day in the downstairs bathroom. (Which, as you guys probably remember, is the size of a closet!) At the moment, Corban is having constipation and diaper rash/painful poop issues, so I hope they will all be resolved in time to potty train. . .
I loved Julia Roberts' quote about her twins, when asked how she felt about getting nominated for an award - she said, "Hey, I'm just glad when everyone makes it to the potty!"
Well, it helps to know I have all of you to help me with ideas when the time comes! :)
