Thanks for nothing, Ike

Yes, I know Houston and Galveston got blasted, but here in Austin we got nothing. Well, I'm sorry - we did get some clouds, a few drips of rain, a knocked over plant, and a whole day after all the Ike hooplah....more sunshine and heat. But guess what? We had that yesterday, and the ENTIRE REST OF THE SUMMER!

Again, I know others had much less good fortune, and obviously I'm not complaining about not receiving destruction....but some rain would have been nice. I'm sure that request sound bizarre to my friends in the northeast; however, realize we're in a drought and I'd be happy for anything.

First days of school

Hello all you Hunnies, and all of you beloved by a Hunny. How is the first week of school for all the kids? Anna is loving school even more than last year. Our school has a crazy half day every Wednesday and I wasn't home today when her van showed up!! Panic! Last year she had an extended lunch/ therapy on Wednesdays which I thought would be the case this year. Sometimes it's fortunate that she doesn't exactly know everything going on. I had to pick her up at school after they had driven her back.

Tomorrow is Jane's first day of preschool. Cute picture of Emily's first day Jenn. I bet she likes school too. Today we played with some girls who are going to be in Jane's class. She had such a good time! She still is not talking to anyone besides Nate, Anna and myself but at least she's not having temper tantrums and imaginary friends pushing her down. There is hope!

Nate's parents were here for two weeks and just left Monday. Mom had some problems with the fluid in her eyes making a blind spot right in the center of her vision. They stayed longer than intended here while seeing specialists. She may need surgery in the future but it is ok for now. They are back in Russia until next June! That is such a long time! Mean while, we will have a couple living in their place from Sept. until Jan. They are doing an internship with our church's youth ministry. They are from Germany.

Nate is looking at a career change sooner than expected. There are layoffs at the station and it just seems like anyone could be next! They pay him peanuts anyway, so why not change jobs? It's hard because he likes most of his co-workers so much. Any suggestions? What do you think Nate would be good at or enjoy?

I'm looking forward to Tuesday which is my first real day of almost 2 1/2 hours with both girls in school. I think I'll spread manure on the garden beds in my first "free time" in almost 7 years!!
Good night.
