Our day.

Hello all. We had a busy day today. Caleb is off from school for the whole week so I decided that Emily could get her well visit in at the doctors and they could both get their flu shot/nasal mist at the same time. Poor Emily she had to get three shots and I must say she was NOT happy about it! She wasn't really happy about going to the doctor in the first place. The last time she went she had an ear infection and they had to clean all of the gunk out of her ear before they could look at it. Well they had to pin her to the table to get all of the gunk out. So she of course remembered that and then when I had her lay down on the table she started asking questions and I finally told her they were going to give her a shot, actually three. MAN can that girl scream! I couldn't calm her down after it was all done, she kept saying, "I want to leave! " To which my reply was, "Emily I can't let you leave this room screaming like that. You'll scare any kids that are in the hallway." This finally calmed her down. So we left, got Caleb's hair cut, twice I must say. We went to a sports clip place, our second time, and this guy cut his hair. I looked at it, noticed it was a little longer than I like it, but thought ehhh it will be alright. We went to the grocery store and I said, "we're going back." I just couldn't handle his hair being that long just after a cut. I like a close cut. Or else we'd be back in three weeks. So after his second hair cut I let emily pick where we would eat lunch. it's only fair right? Use her as a pin cushion three times, let her have a special lunch. I must say my children are always very tired on days that they get shots. Must be all of the new stuff in their bodies making it work harder thus taking up more of their energy.

Well here is my favorite part of my post. It's what got me typing in the first place. So we did the Disney thing this past spring. An event we won't soon forget. Every once in a while Caleb talks about it and when he did today he said, "Mom, so is Disney World even more better than heaven?" I guess Disney made quite an impression on him. :)

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving! We will be having one with just the four of us, as my brother just got home from Iraq and so they'll be spending it with them. Well all has exploded, must go and save the day!

A Little Bit of Closure

They say a memorial helps grief.  Well - there we have it - many months ago, Dave and Matt Wilber donned their pallbearer status and carried the Comfy Chair quietly away to Her final resting place.  Just thought all of you would appreciate the photo!!!  :)

Chicken Diapers

I almost want to say, "Don't ask," but that wouldn't be any fun. So I'll tell you.

I was just reading the Christian Science Monitor. There was an article about an increasing number of people keeping chickens in the city. ("Whole Lotta Clucking Going on in Cities") I decided to take a look around the web for information on city chickens.

Don't get me wrong. While part of me would love to have a few chickens around, I'm almost positive that Hamburg is not zoned for poultry. Also, we have a large yard with no fences. We have one set of very cranky neighbors. I don't see chickens in my immediate future. (Although a rooster might get rid of said cranky neighbors.)

But this is what the internet is for! I can look up silly obscure things without the trouble of driving to the downtown library. Pointless information. I love it.

(Ahem.) Anyway, I was very intrigued my two parts of the web site called The City Chicken. One was called "My Pet Chicken". You put in your criteria for what kind of chicken you want (size, color of egg, frequency of laying and so forth), press the button that says, "Find My Chicken!" and it suggests breeds. Awesome.

The second was this ad for chicken diapers. Yes, chicken diapers. You can even choose between different fabrics. Too funny. I can just see someone saying, "You're not going to get Winnie into that print. She prefers the polka dots."

In a related issue, I finally resorted to buying underwear for Noah online. I felt, well, almost as stupid as I if I were buying chicken diapers. But you see, Noah is small, and no one had underwear for a kid his size. It came yesterday. We're gonna make a stab at it this week. Noah sits on the potty, but nothing ever happens. Wish us luck.

Hello friends. Thought I'd let you know Jane is back to herself now. We just kept pumping her with benedryl and the swelling went down. Few! Today is my birthday and as usual, I feel sick! I have a tendency to have the first stomach bug of the season on my birthday! But, I hope I shall soon be cured by a little tea and loving care. (Anna just made my tea. I think it's so funny that she's watched me pour tea, cream and sugar so many times she can do it herself.)

Kris, I had so scroll down to see who that big boy was! Noah looks older in that picture but still so cute!! I'm glad your time out with him is going well!

Just a few words

Hi all. As I type this, I'm hoping Jane's face is getting better. I hate, hate HATE allergies! Mine are back in full force . . . leaf mold is my personal kryptonite. (Did I spell that correctly?) A few minutes outdoors and I'm reeling. And it's beautiful out.

Aside from that, all is well here. We've joined a mom and me program in the village, and only two of us come. The other mom is an old friend from high school, and it's been fun. We also go to a gym class on Tuesdays, which isn't really a class, but an open hour at the local gymnastics club. Anything Noah can reach he can go on. They pile up mats to climb on, too. Noah loves it. He's so high energy, I've been wishing I could just re-do my basement in gym mats and foam pits.

He's talking up a storm, too. He's really using whole sentences, so now I know what's on his mind, and trust me, he has my imagination.

Karen, I've been meaning to write about your last post for over a month. I'll try to be quick. In short, I'm with you. What makes this whole mom thing difficult is the lack of personal space. For me, it's food, too. I'm a slow eater, and I never seem to have time to fill up. I'm always hungry. But most days, what I want most is to be able to STOP WATCHING. Noah is getting better. But at the same time, he's stronger and a better climber, so the things he can get into are getting scarier.

A side note here. He seems to think "Be careful" means "BONSAI!!!" As in, he'll stand on the top of something and say, "Be careful, Noah. Be careful." Then he jumps. When I hear those words now, my blood runs cold.

Enjoy fall everyone!

I'm Baaaaaack!

After a rather loooong absence from this blog due to some internet gremlins Naytie is back on the Hunny Blog! Thanks to Kris who beat back the Gremlins with her special super powers! Well we had a fun Halloween Party with our kids but did not go out trick or treating. However Janie had a trick of her own brewing... like the biggest weirdest rash the next morning that we've ever seen! It's all over her wrists and forehead and the bridge of her nose is all puffed up. She looks like an angry cat, or like "The Beast" from the TV mini-series "Beauty and the Beast"... not that I watched it... much... it stared that lady from Terminator! OK I digress. We've given her benedryl but it hasn't abated much. We think it must have been the pumpkin pulp which she got all over herself. The pumpkin is a slightly different variety from your average carving pumpkin so go figure.

Hope you all are well.
